As much as I can be a socialite that is. This seems to be getting into a bit of a theme – crazy sociable weekends that leave me yearning for a quiet weekend with Hairy when we can just doze and watch films.
We sort of had that this weekend, but as we had a friend over to stay it meant that Hairy and I didn’t get to cuddle on the same sofa because she is going through a very tough patch with her fella and wanted cuddles and reassurance.
Friday night was interesting, to say the least. There have been a couple of incredibly unattractive photos that have turned up on the book of faces – mostly because I wasn’t aware of the camera and so hadn’t primped or preened. Yay candid shots. But anywho, Hairy and I jumped on a train to Loughborough and ended up bumping into the one person I didn’t want to see – Toolbag. I did my usual disappearance act and left Hairy to chat to him for a little, then we all walked to Lady Loughborough’s house together. Awkward doesn’t even begin to cover it, although a nice big bottle of Captain Morgan’s helped once we got there. No, I didn’t get spectacularly drunk; Hairy kept an eye on me even though we didn’t get to spend much time together and I ended up chatting with Toolbag who ended up not being a toolbag and saved me from several sticky situations throughout the night. There was a man there who definitely had difficulties in social relations and kept following me, talking to me and generally making me uncomfortable. Normally I’m fine, but I was stressed about the evening and didn’t need to be cornered by the same guy asking weirdly personal questions. Not-so-Toolbag kept joining the conversation, or would go and tell my Hairy that I needed saving, plus we chatted and sorted out the fact that he had been a complete dick on my birthday.
That was long and complicated, so I’ll forgive you if you didn’t read it!
Saturday was good – much too much chocolate, computer games and having a bit of time with Hairy meant it got better but then my friend needed us to meet her in town. We hurried dinner, only just made it on time and then spent most of the evening listening to the woes of her love life and trying to help her feel better. She stayed over which was fine and we had expected it, and then stayed until she had to go to church the next day. We watched a lot of silly things, but a part of me definitely wanted Hairy just to myself for the day.
Woe tis me, and all that malarkey. My weekend was good overall, and it’s nice to have friends who want to see you.
To happier climes! Tonight is Guides night and I shall be toddling along to meet some of the Trefoil Guild who are popping along to help the girls sew badges onto their camp blankets. I am a shameful leader who has about 30 badges waiting to be sewn on – including old ones from my last unit, as well as a lot of the badges that I’ve been given while at my current Guides. The Trefoil Guild is made up of retired Guide Leaders who still enjoy being a part of Guiding and are around to help out if necessary.
