Runes and Rhinestones

I'm a modern day Viking, navigating my way through a stormy sea of stuff.

I’m going to terrify Hairy now.

on April 4, 2013

This will be my 150th post on here, so I figured I’d do something else that’s important to me. I never really thought I’d get this far! I just realised that if I’d done this point on April 1st without the disclaimer, then it would have been much fun to see how long it would take before I got a phone call from Mother Dearest squawking about not being told about the happy news. Or something. Instead I woke up at half midnight, pinched and punched Hairy then went back to sleep dreaming of white rabbits.

You know I’m in a happy and stable relationship, I know that Hairy’s going to propose some day. He’s got a Plan that he won’t tell me about, but it’s not happening soon. I wasn’t a little girl who spent ages planning their wedding day, BUT. I do have some ideas that are growing about what I want our wedding to be like.

I’m not going to go all crazy about it (I hope), and I want Hairy to be fully involved the entire time and have something to say on pretty much everything. That’ll be sorted when we come to it, but for the moment I’m going to share some of the things I’d love for my wedding.

I’d like to get married in early Autumn – favourite season, might be lucky enough to get some good weather but not too hot. Not sure about location yet – outside, not in a church, accessible for guests…

So, the biggest deal. The dress. Currently I’m in love with this one because it’s beautiful and classy, but different enough that it’ll still feel like me rather than getting a strapless wonder that will spend most of its time trying to escape in a southerly direction. With this one it’s not going to break the bank, but I think it’s absolutely stunning. Obviously this is just at the moment, things might change between here and forever after happiness.

I’ve known for a few years that I want my sister and eldest female cousin to be my bridesmaids (the cousin feels like a little sister anyway: in a few weeks I’m popping down to Cardiff with Sister mine to spend the weekend), but I haven’t got a clue what sort of dress I want them to be in! Clearly they can’t be prettier than me, but I want them both to look lovely and be happy. Since one is blonde and blue eyed, the other brunette (sometimes) and blue eyed, the colour’s going to be a pig. I haven’t really decided what colours I want at the wedding – part of me is really drawn towards making it like a harvest festival – all gold, russet and cream.

Maybe something like this:

I’ve already made myself a crown once, I could totally do it again for the wedding 😀

Or all flowery!

For my Hairy, who doesn’t have a sweet tooth – the cheese wheel cake! Seriously, it’s a thing and I kind of want one… Just because it’d be an excuse to eat cheese for weeks afterwards 😀 Also, a hog roast because what’s better than cooking pig on your big day? I’m serious here! Maybe by that point Hairy will have managed to start brewing properly so we can provide evilly strong mead, cider and ale from our own fair hands.

I’d quite like to make the favours, possibly some sort of jam or marmalade. Knowing Hairy, he’d love it if it was a bear themed wedding so we could make up little pots of marmalade and pretend all our guests had turned into Paddington Bear.

I don’t want to spend stupid amounts on the wedding (another point of contention – Hairy wants to spend every penny and get it all perfect), but there is one extravagance I’d happily splurge on. I’d love to get married in comfortable shoes that I’ll wear again and again. You’ve heard about my troubles with my poor departed Doc Martens today, but how about getting married in something like these?

White Doc Martens (likely to be hidden by the dress anyway), with the colours of the wedding embroidered on them. I think it’s a briliant idea. Then I could wear them again afterwards and always remember my wedding day, rather than a pair of shoes I’ll never touch again. Right?

Oh, hey, LOVE the DMs! Even Dad says “yes, very her” … x

I see a theme emerging here. A country harvest wedding, alomost medievil like, with roast pig on a spit, homemade brew and of course the DM’s for your shoes. The dress you picked out is perfect as is something similar with the crowns of flowers for your attendants. 🙂

You know what this REALLY makes me think of? The wedding scene at the end of Robin Hood Prince of Thieves (the Kevin Costner one)!
