I think I can categorically state that this week has probably been the biggest week of my life. Good things come in threes, and this week has proved that beyond a doubt. Except for the stupidly hot and sticky weather which kind of put a dampener (in a kind of disgusting manner) on some things. Monday was my graduation day, I got to wander across the stage and I totally got a little badge as well!
Me and my Pops. Outside the hall, we turned up early to grab my gown and hat. The hat which I measured for my head, but turned out to be completely the wrong size and I had to get the guy to go back three times for different sizes. Then I wasn’t allowed to wear it until after I’d graduated! This was before the actual ceremony, but I’ve got my gown and everything. If you look, you can see the necklace that Hairy bought me – it’s an Icelandic Thor’s hammer since I spent my degree bemoaning the lack of one and feeling less like a Viking because of it. It’s Icelandic since that was one of my specialisations throughout my degree.
No scroll for me! Just my actual certificate…
All of the Viking students that graduated this year! As well as one of our lecturers who was there to see us get our degrees.
Mum: “I hate you both”. Me and Pops: “WE KNOW!”
Who has the better imperious look? Pops has the height, but I’ve totally got everything else going for me. Including Mum’s elbow…
Like this needs explaining. I’m stupidly happy and hugging my very short mother.
Pops was very huggy this week. I’ll explain why (I think) later… Oooh, the suspense!
There was a whole long speech during my graduation ceremony that went on and on about sacrifice of the people who were getting the degrees (blood, sweat and a whole lot of tears), and also the people who supported us in getting to where we are now. This is Pops and my Hairy showing their completely empty wallets – not like they were paying for anything that day anyway!
Family love. Hairy looks amazing in his waistcoat, doesn’t he?
This reminds me of a photo of me as a small child, pulling this exact face. Times they aren’t a changing!
Yay, look more happiness. And I even have a tan! I got horrendously burnt about a week ago, so you can actually see the tan line on my wrist.
I’m so happy. The gowns made pretty much everyone look like a pregnant whale, but this was the proudest moment of my life. There were so many times that I didn’t think that I’d make it to be there and proud to get my degree, and I did it. Hairy helped and supported me so much throughout my degree, and I couldn’t have done it without him.
And yes, it had to happen. I’m clearly a vampire about to suck your life force from your body…
Here be tired feet. I was in heeled boots for the ceremony and strode across the stage, but it was too hot so I ended up in my Bang shoes 🙂
I walked across that stage and I didn’t fall over! I’m also pleased with what I wore – I looked a bit wintry, but at least I didn’t look like I was heading out on the town for a night out.
Happy days! I decided not to go for official graduation photos since they were so expensive. Instead we tootled out and stood under a tree and took snaps. I’m much happier about that to be honest, and it was lovely and easy.
These are slightly out of order, but you get the gist. Much smiling and happiness was had that day.
At the end of the day, we went home and Mops and Pops fell asleep and Hairy and I had a bit of time quiet to ourselves. I went to join him downstairs while he smoked, and I nabbed a photo.
Neither of us were awake. We went out for steak after this, I had the T-bone (nearly £20 worth of meat!) and it turns out that Pops told the waitress that it was my graduation day so we got fantastic service. Mops ordered a pudding, mentioned that I may steal a bit and so the waitress brought over an extra spoon just in case. It made me laugh at least!
He gets the better photo. I deleted the photo of him looking cute with his tongue out…
Yeah… This is about how I feel right now. I’m just writing this before I head to bed before a twelve hour bar shift tomorrow, working at a festival at Wollaton Hall. I get paid minimum wage, but I do get food and drinks throughout the day.
On Tuesday we went to Lincoln and climbed up Steep Hill! We’re an imaginative lot – it was a seriously steep hill. Mops and I sat and sang guiding songs in a cafe, much to the mirth of Hairy and Pops. Only quietly though, and it was pretty deserted. We also ended up in a shop called Salamander – hippy/goth/alternative joy. I now have new trousers and a rucksack that I’ve wanted for over a year now. All very practical!
Hairy in Lincoln. Nuff said.
He’s a teapot.
Should be written as law! Eat fudge and be happy 😀
My beautiful new bag – nearly got an orange one, but the consensus was for this one.
This was Thursday. Hairy was ill on Wednesday so we stayed in and relaxed while he recovered. It was too good a reflection to pass up trying to take a photo! We also found out that we got the tenancy on the house we wanted – we’re moving in on 1st August!
What’s one of my posts without a series of self-shots?
And my new and giant purple sunglasses. They’re enormous, make my nose sweaty but they’re pretty good otherwise. Only cost £1 as well!
Hairy had been drinking (only one bottle, but even so) from about 10am at this point. More revealed later…
And Hairy’s shot of me. We went for a walk along the canal – when we were not quite dating, we went for a giant walk along the canal that lasted about 8 miles and Hairy knew that I’d always wanted to explore in the other direction so he took me there. Sadly it wasn’t amazingly special, but the thought was there and I really enjoyed the walk. We then toddled through town to get to the Arboretum to have a picnic lunch.
Hairy’s best and cutest face. You can’t see the two litre bottle of Pimms in a plastic lemonade bottle that’s hiding just out of sight in this photo…
He’s a little dim sometimes. Still adorable though.
Sometimes I pull cute faces. Other times, my forehead wrinkles get in the way.
Num num num… Pimms o’clock!
Hairy got the camera.
I’m claiming the alcohol had something to do with this photo…
Phlumph. I wanted to get some sun, but it was just a bit too far away…
Happy smiley face! Just before the epic strawberries and cream shenanigans 😀
And here’s my amazing “I’m totally asleep face!”
And here’s the last photo of me before I said yes.
He has a lovely face. The orange necklace is a d20 – type of dice that we use in Dungeons and Dragons.
Strawberries and creeeeeeeeeeeeam. That we didn’t pay for because I had enough points on my card to get them for free 😀
The stupid thing got stuck.
It’s not easy being a strawberry eater!
“For the Master?”
So. Kablammy. I’m engaged to my Hairy man. He asked me at the picnic, about 3.30pm after we’d eaten and everything. He nearly cried, I cried and launched myself at him for hugs and kisses before actually saying yes. I never expected it this early but I’m deliriously happy. It’s the most beautiful ring – it’s a ruby heart set around with diamonds and in a white gold band. It’s a little bit big, but I can’t bear to part with it to get it re-sized.
In the pub. This is a happy Hairy.
We’re getting married. It’s actually happening. This week I graduated, found out that we got the house that we wanted and my Hairy proposed and I’ve never been happier. I can’t believe my luck.
